Mrs. Libby's 3rd Grade Class

3rd graders are awesome!

3P Stories

We have been working on our 3P stories in writing. We started by brainstorming some subtraction story ideas. A subtraction story is one where the character is missing something i.e. a tiger without stripes. After students had selected a subtraction story idea they began their 3P plan. A 3P plan consists of thinking of a problem for the story as well as a pattern where the character tries 3 things to solve the problem. The first two things don’t work for the character’s problem while the third idea solves the problem. Students are working on editing and revising their work. We will begin researching Egypt in writing next week.

NECAPs

Our 3rd grade students took the NECAPs today. The NECAPs are a standardized test that all 3rd graders in the state of Maine take. Test sessions are being taking starting today and continuing until Wednesday, October 22nd. Please make sure that your child gets lots of rest the night before they are taking the test. Also a healthy breakfast and lunch is a great way for them to maintain their energy and focus.

Busy, busy, busy!

It has been a very busy week for us in the third grade wing! We took the NWEAs on Wednesday and Thursday. The students did a great job focusing on their test and doing the very best they could. The NWEAs are a computer based test that helps us pinpoint the areas in reading and math that students are strong in and those they are weak in. It is a great asset to have when working with students.

We also began our rocket math facts program. Students will be doing rocket math daily. Please make sure to practice with your child on the days they do not pass. A minute or two of practice a day will make a world of difference!
